Mr. Fuzzy

This is Mr. Fuzzy.

Mr. Fuzzy puppet

Mr. Fuzzy is currently looking a little worse for wear. This is because it is the end of the school year and Mr. Fuzzy's main job during term time is to be thrown at an interactive whiteboard.

Now, Mr. Fuzzy does not mind this, in fact he does his duty very well! Because he knows that he is helping students with their rhythm-reading skills.

I use Mr. Fuzzy in conjunction with these wonderful IWB sets by Aileen Miracle of Mrs. Miracle's Music Room (They form the Group Reading on SMART board segment of the Gr. 2 Bundle). She has a lot of great stuff and I'd recommend checking out her blog if you haven't already: http://www.mrsmiraclesmusicroom.com/

The home screen comes up with a series of fuzzy monsters that look a little like this:

Students take turns to throw Mr. Fuzzy gently (or sometimes not so gently - see above!) at the screen and see which fuzzy monster they can hit. This takes them to a rhythm which they must read accurately before returning to the main menu.

You can set challenges for your class by having them mark off which monsters they've hit and try to get 3 in a row, or a whole column, or the whole board!

Want to send Mr. Fuzzy some well wishes and help him recover quicker? Leave them below in the comments!
